An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth

Return good for evil. Behold only the virtues and wisdom of your neighbor; his faults thou shalt not discover. His matters are with his Creator. If a man smite thee on the cheek, turn the other unto him also. These teachings can only suggest that it is more important to protect the garment of the soul unstained, than it is to preserve the things of the corporeal world. How many tribes have been erased from the earth who follow these teachings. We know that Joshu taught these things and only by deviating from them has our nation endured, and freedom been won for the oppressed. Perhaps these ideals are just enough to stay the hand from brutality.
